Awash in Gouache: Submarine Paintings

These gouache paintings were created specifically for the inaugural exhibit at the Water Closet Gallery in Portland, Maine. The military arsenal of the world is a recurring theme in much of my work. It is enough sometimes, for me, to simply inventory this arsenal through pictorial illustration. With this particular body of work I sourced the images of submarines from a book purchased at Goodwill, then added my own characteristic flourishes and settings. I hope to build on this imagery again to explore the realm of sea and sky as bands of color.
